In May, standing in front of a packed crowd at the Beatbox Art Car at EDC Las Vegas, Mattilo made a promise. “MAINSTAGE NEXT YEAR!!” he wrote afterward. “I’m callin’ it now.”

He didn’t have to wait a year.

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, day two of the festival, Mattilo played his first-ever main stage at Nocturnal Wonderland, the 31st edition of the longest-running dance music festival in the United States. Before his set, he posted three words that said everything: “NOCTURNAL WONDERLAND. IT’S TIME.”

Main stage slots early in the day are a test. The headliners are hours away, people are still setting up camp, and plenty of festivalgoers are pacing themselves for the night ahead. A crowd at that hour is a crowd that came on purpose.

Mattilo’s showed up. “First time on the main stage,” he wrote, “packed out early afff.”

It’s the same story that has followed him all year. His fans aren’t casual listeners who happen to wander by. They’re the community he built himself, one short clip at a time, from making beats in his dad’s basement to more than 400 million views on TikTok. When he tells them where to be, they’re there, whether that’s an art car at 3 AM in the Las Vegas desert or a main stage early in the day at Glen Helen.

There’s something fitting about where this milestone happened. Nocturnal Wonderland was born in Downtown Los Angeles in 1995, and for more than three decades it has carried Southern California’s rave culture with it. This year’s edition took over Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, at the base of the Cajon Pass, with a lineup led by deadmau5, ILLENIUM, James Hype, Green Velvet, SIDEPIECE, Deorro and Seven Lions.

For a Salvadoran American kid from Temple City, about an hour down the freeway, it’s hard to imagine a better place to step onto a main stage for the first time than the festival that helped build the SoCal scene he grew up in.

Look at the last eighteen months and the trajectory is hard to miss: his EDC Las Vegas debut in May 2025, on the stereoBLOOM stage and the Metaphoenix art car; a return to EDC’s 30th anniversary in May 2026, drawing a crowd to the Beatbox Art Car that he said he never expected to see at an art car, and debuting his new single “Without You” live; and in September 2026, his first main stage, at Nocturnal Wonderland.

Each step came with the same pattern: he tells his fans where he’ll be, and they turn up in bigger numbers than the slot is supposed to draw.

Mattilo kept his message after the set simple, and he aimed it at the people who might be where he was a few years ago.

“FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS,” he wrote, “cus one day u might end up on the mainstage.” And to the festival that gave him the stage: “Thank u Nocturnal.”

The call he made at EDC is checked off. The only question now is which main stage comes next.
